What doesn’t?

Return-to-Player Percentage

The RTP on this game ranges from 95.3% to 95.62%, with the range based on a player’s GoldenBet setting. Nowadays, players expect nothing short of 96%, and given that you’re shelling out for the GoldenBet, I’d like to see this game at least match that 96%. With the lower RTP, I’m not seeing as many wins as I would like on a regular basis.

Smaller Wins

Given that you can double your bet using Level 2 of the Golden Bet, some of the lower symbols pay out pathetically. With a base bet of $5 and a Level 2 bet equaling $5, I was a bit dismayed at three 9 symbols only paying out 40 cents. (But for the lucky among you, the bigger wins with extra Gold Wilds can offset this disappointment.)

The Scores

Graphics & soundtrack 4/5

Graphics are clean and recognizable and perfectly in tune with the game. Also in tune is the soundtrack. While the Big Band music can get annoying if left on a medium or high volume, it’s very pleasant at a lower level for long periods of time and adds to the atmosphere of the game. Almost like being in a brick-and-mortar casino back in the day.

Originality & creativity 3/5

The game plays off the history of the Golden Nugget brand, and while very few of the elements are original, they are true to that and used in creative ways. The GoldenBet and Golden Touch features are also creative takes on standard bonus features and work well with the theme of the game.

Play value 3.5/5

Utilizing the GoldenBet feature can really make play more enjoyable, with an increase in both the number of wins and prize amounts. The increased number of free spins also makes the play value higher.
